Bird eggs

A couple weeks ago, we found our bird nest occupied by five fine, speckled eggs. Since then, I have carefully been trying to water on one side of the flower pot and leave the other side to the mother bird and her eggs.

U.S.S. Alabama

On the way home from Mississippi the Sunday before last, we stopped in Mobile to see the U.S.S. Alabama battleship.

"The ship was commissioned 16 August 1942, and is 680 feet in length, with a width of 108 feet, 2 inches. She is registered as 25,000 tons but under battle conditions she weighed in at well over 45,000 tons. Her assigned crew was 127 officers and 2,205 enlisted, but she normally had a crew of 2,500 men aboard. She earned 9 Battle Stars, and shot down 22 enemy airplanes during Word War II." (From the Battleship Memorial Park brochure.)

Every room was used as efficiently as possible. Beds had to be shared with two other people (eight hours per person) for lower rank personnel. More specialized workers had their own beds in their workplace and shared the room with only two, three or four other people.

Everyday life on the ship.

Kara's Graduation

Last weekend we went up to Mississippi to Bass Memorial Academy for Kara's graduation. We arrived for church just as the seniors were marching in. Three kids from our church graduated together that weekend.

Below: Anthony with his mom Rosalind. Kathy with Lisi after church.

A walk after a good cafeteria lunch with fresh-picked plum and berry dessert along the way.

Sisters.

Three graduates that already graduated together from Pensacola Junior Academy:

Beth graduated from Highland Academy the same weekend.
Congratulations Beth!
The flowers below are for you. ;)

Sunday morning we met at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Mark had French toast with blackberry sauce. Mmmm...

Stone Mountain

Monday after breakfast with Nina, Matthias and Samuel we went to Stone Mountain, which was close to the hotel where we had stayed. It was very windy but the sun was shining. Stone Mountain consists of one solid stone. On one side the mountain has a huge carving of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson, three Confederate leaders from the American Civil War.

On the way up Stone Mountain.

This is a most disgusting sight in the middle of the trail: A power pole covered with used chewing gum.

Reaching the top.

Atlanta from the top of Stone Mountain.

Afterward we ate lunch at Udipi Cafe, an Indian vegetarian restaurant in Atlanta.
We had a hard time choosing what to order with more choices than ever (since every dish was vegetarian). Everything we ordered was delicious.
